A
VERY SPECIAL OFFERING!
~Essential
literature for every goat fancier and student of domestication~
THE MYSTERIOUS GOAT, IMAGES
AND IMPRESSIONS
By Dr. C. Naaktgeboren
Without doubt the most beautiful and special book on goats so far. In a luxurious large
format hardcover, all the cultural aspects of the intriguing bond between the goat and
mankind, over a period of more than hundred centuries, will be extensively covered, with
scores of breathtaking illustrations.
The goat, so widespread that she still is known as the poor man’s cow, is more multifunctional than any other domesticated animal. See the irrefutable evidence in the
cultural history of mankind. At the very same time we are still awed, not to say intrigued,
by so many characteristics and qualities of the goat… ‘The Queen of the Field’.
So far plenty of books have been published on the goat, but they are all more or less focused
on husbandry and/ or the different breeds. Never before has full attention been given to the
overwhelming number of different aspects of the goat, in her special relationship with us.
‘The Mysterious Goat, Images and Impressions’ will do exactly that. In a once in a lifetime
manner.
In a luxurious large (A4) format quality hardcover with about 300 pages and with as many
illustrations (in full colour and black and white) all possible expressions of the rich goat
culture of every country of importance are given. The majority of the illustrations are high
quality copies of original postcards – coming from the internationally renowned private
collection of the author – which are a wealthy source on their own.
In fifty chapters the many mysteries of our goat are revealed, in great detail, always with
high respect for her, here and there even with a tender kind of love, but never is there a
wrong kind of sentiment. The book starts of course by answering the question of where the
goat comes from. This is followed by focusing on her character and temperament, individually
and as a herding animal. The use of the goat takes up a large part of the book, naturally,
but almost as much space is reserved for the goat in religion, mythology, folklore, science
and art. The male goat is not forgotten. The idea alone… in so many expressions of goat
culture the buck plays the leading part… beer, the devil, the army, pulling the (invalid)
cart, even udder development and milk gift in the male goat is dealt with.
The Dutchman Dr. C. Naaktgeboren is the author of ‘The Mysterious Goat’. His hundreds of
articles for scientific journals and popular scientific magazines in America, France,
Germany, Great Britain and the Netherlands are proof of his rare expertise as an authority,
not only on goats, but on all domestic animals, his speciality being the birth of mammals. In
1963 he took his doctoral degree on this subject. Besides written publications - articles and
books - he has also made a dozen scientific films on the same subject. Since his retirement
from the University of Amsterdam he has lived in France, where he has bred goats and has been
closely involved with the preservation of rare breeds. For some years he was a committee
member of the French Club for the Preservation of the Poitevin Goat.

BILLY'S GOAT by Cynthia Davidson Bend
Billy’s Goat is a novel for young readers that will charm adults also. Life on the Brock family farm in the 1950’s provides an exciting school for Bill, Jane and Sammy. At the neighboring goat dairy, Bill watches the birth of the kid he longs to have, then gets a job at a horse farm to earn money to buy it. His friend, Doug, rescues his pet blue jay as an egg from a bull snake. For Bill, fun with his kid is shadowed by the sinister neighbor who threatens to butcher Bill’s kid. The excitement in this story hinges on animal behavior. Discover how a trained blue jay can save the lives of both a kid and a boy from the deranged
neighbor.
This is a story modern children need. Tech Tonic, a publication of the Alliance for Childhood, reports that the average American can recognize over a thousand brand names but is unable to identify ten indigenous plants or animals.
